With “SIGRID” (2026), Alfredo Barsuglia presents an installation that exemplifies his artistic practice. The starting point is the estate of a real person, whose countless personal belongings are displayed in an exhibition setting. Visitors are invited to take individual objects with them. As the shelf is continuously restocked, the work constantly evolves while simultaneously preserving the memory of the person “SIGRID”. The installation explores questions of privacy, memory, the attribution of value, and the isolation of people in large cities, blurring the line between artwork and social action.
In the series “Untitled (A.T.C.G.),” created in 2001, Jörg Schlick translates the genetic code into a photographic system of order. The four bases—adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine—are linked to different views of an everyday object and arranged in a series corresponding to genetic sequences. Through repetition and combination, the original motif increasingly loses its function as a representation and becomes part of a larger visual structure. Between a scientific system of rules and a seemingly decorative visual world, a tension arises between order and chance, individuality and series.
