In the series “Untitled (A.T.C.G.),” created in 2001, Jörg Schlick translates the genetic code into a photographic system of organization. The four bases—adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine—are linked to different views of an everyday object and arranged in sequence according to genetic
sequences. Through repetition and combination, the original motif increasingly loses its function as a representation and becomes part of a larger visual structure. Between a scientific system of rules and a seemingly decorative visual world, a tension arises between order and chance, individuality and series.
